Don’t let the frigid air keep you from enjoying your weekend with your family. On Saturday, Jan. 24, take your family to Northerly Island for Polar Adventure Day. Chicago can be very cold during this winter month, and the event was created to encourage families to step outside and have a good time despite the frigid temps. From noon to 4 p.m., you will enjoy fun activities including making winter crafts, encountering birds of prey, meeting Siberian huskies, wolves and other animals, enjoying music from the Old Town School of Folk Music, storytelling and, of course, playing in the snow! Enjoy sipping on hot cocoa while exploring the snowy terrain on snowshoes (provided for free if there’s snow). This event is free and is only $3 to park (cash only). Plus, the first 100 guests will receive a free 10th Anniversary Polar Adventure Day mug!

With endless shopping located indoors and outdoors in the historic West Loop neighborhood, the Randolph Street Market Festival returns Jan. 24 and Jan. 25. Enjoy a Vinyl Swap Meet where you will find thousands of collectible records or try the Fancy Food Market with all types of chocolates, cakes, breads and spices that you can take home. Kids will love the Global Goods Bazaar with crafts and artisan goods from Chicago’s ethic neighborhoods. Tickets at the gate are just $10 and kids under 12 get in free.

If your kids love to read and act out stories, then they will love Adventure Library. Held Saturday, Jan. 24 at the pH Comedy Theater, this event allows your kids to pick one of their favorite books and watch the story come to life by the team of improvisers. The kids must help and are allowed on stage to participate in creating the story! This is no ordinary, quite library; at Adventure Library, you are free to laugh and play all you want. The play beginns at 2 p.m., and tickets are $12 for adults and $8 for kids.
