A Weekend Affair: Date Night Ideas at Navy Pier

During February, people are searching for the perfect way to celebrate Valentine’s Day and impress their special someone. Why wait for Valentine’s Day to take your significant other out? To impress your date, the Navy Pier is having many events that are sure to provide a good time. You don’t need Cupid’s help; you just need this list of fun events you can do this weekend!

Navy Pier is a Chicago landmark, and events are constantly happening at this historic site. Residents from all over Chicago make their way to the pier for a guaranteed good time. For residents locally near North Lake Shore Drive or North Michigan, Navy Pier is just a short drive or a nice brisk walk. If you are south to the pier, take Interstate 90 towards Ohio Street and head east. Coming from the west side of Chicago, take Interstate 290 East.

Beginning on Sunday, Feb. 8, Neighborhoods of the World at Navy Pier is proud to celebrate different cultures with community arts organizations, consulates and museums. On Sunday, dive into the Italian culture in a partnership with the Italian Cultural Institute and Joint Civic Committee of Italian Americans. During this event, you will be able to enjoy the music, traditional dances, cuisine and crafts from Italy. You and your date can travel the country of Italy without ever leaving the city! The event is free and open to the public.

Also at Navy Pier, you can enjoy watching creations made from snow during Snow Days at Navy Pier. This free festival takes place on Saturday, Feb. 7 and Sunday, Feb. 8, and features international teams of talented professionals creating masterpieces made from man-made snow. During this festive event, there will be fun activities for the kids, a snow sculpting competition, nighttime illuminations, an interactive snowboarding experience and more. Enjoy the best snow date this weekend!

If you and your date are into culinary experiences, then Cider Summit is where you want to be this weekend. On Saturday, Feb. 7 at the Navy Pier Grand Ballroom, you can enjoy sampling more than 150 ciders at the region’s largest cider tasting. This event will take place in two sessions with the first one from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. and the second from 4 to 8 p.m. During Cider Summit, you will be able to taste four-ounce portions of ciders from all over the world including England, Scotland, France and Spain. Food pairing with the ciders will also be provided, along with an event store featuring Cider Summit t-shirts and other merchandise. Tickets are available online for $30, and they include admission, a souvenir tasting glass and eight tasting tickets. Additional tasting tickets may be purchased for $2 extra. You must be 21 or older to attend. Tickets are selling fast, so make sure you get yours today!

For a romantic night on the water, the Odyssey cruise offers stunning views of the city skyline, specialty cocktails, music and more during Chicago Restaurant Week. Starting at $44 per person, you and your date can set sail and enjoy wonderful service and a delicious three-course meal. For the first course, a mixed greens salad is paired wonderfully with champagne. There are four options for the main course with choices including a Roasted Chicken, Odyssey Short Ribs, Maple Glazed Pork Tenderloin and Vegetable Napoleon. End the night with something sweet, and not just  a kiss! Odyssey’s dessert selections include mini pastry cups, cakes, pastries and fruits.
