Key Award Entries Due September 1

August 22, 2010

A Key Award signifies quality in home building.

When shopping for a new car, appliance or household product, you probably put a lot of stock in award-winners. Benchmarks like the Good Housekeeping Seal of Approval and the J.D. Powers Award mean a company has earned its stripes by meeting high standards.

When purchasing a new home, buyers should take the same care in choosing a builder. That mark of quality in homebuilding, the Key Award, is bestowed annually by the Home Builders Association of Greater Chicago at an annual event. The recent Award winners are posted on the HBAGC Web site.

The HBAGC takes nominations from builders, remodelers and homebuilding industry professionals, who believe their projects are the best in the industry. Then, teams of building experts go into the field and judge the nominated projects, looking at quality, craftsmanship and attention to detail.

Key Awards are judged on a point basis, with a threshold for gold, silver and bronze Key Awards. Those who enter their projects in the Crystal Key competition are judged on the overarching excellence of their community or development.

“Home buyers who know their builder has won a Key Award can be assured that they are dealing with a company whose standards are among the highest in the industry,” said Joe Safin, past chair of the 2007 Key Awards for the HBAGC.

Not only are the standards high, but the prestige of holding the Award earns companies the respect and admiration of their fellow competitors. They set the bar for innovation and quality, giving inspiration to others.

“You can tell when you walk into these homes and communities, that the people involved set out to make a difference in the quality of life for their residents,” said Gail Payonk, past co-chair of the Key Awards Committee. “The Key Awards winners are those who are building exemplary homes.

“Anyone who buys a home from a Key Award winner can be assured that their builder is among those who care to bring their best to the table every single day.”

Look for a Key Award mention on your builder’s Web site, in its sales offices, or advertisements and marketing materials.
