A Refurbished Computer Would Make the Perfect Holiday Gift

November 27, 2010

Chicagoland Real Estate Forum has written before about an opportunity in which some of your volunteered time will net you a free recycled computer, and there’s another event Sunday in Chicago.

FreeGeek Chicago is a not-for-profit organization that refurbishes used computers and their parts to provide functioning computers, education, internet access and job skills training in exchange for community service.

Free refurbished computerThe organization does most of its work with volunteers who take apart donated computers and test the parts.

When the parts are put back together, the units become refurbished computers called FreekBoxes.

If you volunteer in the Earn-A-Box program, you’ll learn about computers and their components, you’ll be giving your time to help others and you’ll go home with a FreekBox of  your own.

Upcoming events include:

*Sunday, November 28; 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

*Friday, December 3; 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

*Sunday, December 5; 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

If you are new to the program, you should try to get there 30 minutes before the starting time.

Where: FreeGeek Chicago, in the basement at 3411 W. Diversey, Chicago
