November 14, 2011

The priciest parcel of metro Chicago real estate to ever hit the market has failed to sell at auction.

exterior of homeLe Grand Rêve, the Winnetka mansion that was once listed for a Chicago-area record $32 million, was set to be auctioned off to the highest bidder on October 29 by Concierge Auctions.

Homeowners Deborah and Sherwin Jarol were auctioning off the 25,000-square-foot estate with no minimum bid. According to the Tribune’s Bob Goldsborough, the Jarols received multiple bids, and even negotiated with the highest bidder for over a week, but in the end, no deal was made.

tiffany domeLe Grand Rêve, which translates to “The Big Dream,” is a 26-room, French-inspired chateau that includes six bedrooms, 10 bathrooms, nine fireplaces, two kitchens, a spa, a nine-car garage and a two-story Rotunda with a Tiffany stained glass dome.

The auction had included all the furnishings, artwork and antiques inside.

According to the MRED, Chicago’s MLS, this home is currently off the market, though I’m sure if you have a cool $30 mil. sitting around, the Jarols would love to hear from you.
