Sherie L. Wilks Delivers Staging Presentation at SSHBA

The Southwest Suburban House Builders Association hosted a Sales & Marketing Council Networking Breakfast on April 16 featuring a presentation by Sherie L. Wilks on the topic of home staging.

Wilks, owner of Life’s A Stage, brought her expertise to the SSHBA to explain the benefits of staging a home and how that translates to effectively selling your property. After spending 12 years selling real estate, Wilks honed in on home staging after seeing how much decorating a home to its full potential helped increase the selling price while decreasing the amount of time the property sits on the market.

“The cutest homes sell the fastest,” Wilks explained in an exclusive to Chicagolandrealestateforum. “Those are the home you want to live in.”

Wilks focuses on using the homeowners existing furnishings to bring out the best first impression to potential buyers. “Don’t buy anything you can’t use in your next home,” advises Wilks. “Mix what a homeowner already has to lessen costs.”

With the real estate landscape still trying to recuperate from the housing crisis, how does a home staging professional like Wilks feel about the direction the market is headed?

“I think it’s moving forward towards recovery,” Wilks explained. “It’s moving slowly. Yet many of the homes I have staged are getting contracts in two or three weeks which is unheard of.”

With the spat of foreclosures staining the housing industry like an oil spill on a beach, how has Wilks utilized her expertise to combat the depressing housing climate?

“If a buyer is looking at a foreclosure that is not in great shape and your staged house looks wonderful and ready to move into, even if your home is more expensive, people will figure they don’t have to worry about your house because it’s been taken care of,” Wilks explained.
