Get Smart with Your Money for Free

April 24, 2012

In today’s unstable economy, it’s more important than ever to be smart with your money.

That’s why Chicago Real Estate Forum apologizes for not getting this story to you sooner: April 21-28 is Money Smart Week in Chicago.

Money Smart Week® (MSW) offers a series of free classes and activities designed to help residents better manage their personal finances.

Hosted by the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago and its more than 250 partner organizations, this is the 10th Anniversary of Money Smart Week Chicago.

“The Chicago Fed started the Money Smart Week program 11 years ago,” said Chicago Fed President Charles Evans. “The program has grown exponentially over the past decade, providing hundreds of educational offerings to help teach those in Chicago and outlying areas how to better manage their finances and navigate these financial times.”

What started as a day of free classes in public libraries has evolved into a week of more than 500 free classes, seminars and activities offered in a variety of languages.

Some of the topics covered include:

*How to own a home and apply for a mortgage.

*What you need to know about refinancing a mortgage.

*How to extend time when facing foreclosure.

*Moving with less stress.

*Tax-free investing

*Planning for retirement.

*How to start a business with very little money.

*Profitability and sustainability in going green.

*Teaching kids to save.

Classes are being held in the city, throughout the suburbs and all around the state of Illinois through Saturday, April 28. To find a topic and location that work for you, visit moneysmartweek.org.
