Ronald McDonald House Families Provided with Chicago New Home

July 08, 2012

Most people looking for Chicago new homes are planning to move to the area permanently, but what about families who come to Chicago to provide their children with top medical care? These families need temporary, yet sustainable housing while their children are hospitalized and the new Ronald McDonald House is the place to be!

The brand new Ronald McDonald House on Grand Avenue opened on Tuesday, and is the world’s largest Ronald McDonald House with 100,000 square feet, 16 floors and space for 86 families. It is designed to feel like a home, fully equipped with kitchens, a library and even a vegetable garden.

This new Ronald McDonald House also provides two floors that are reserved for transplant recipients and their families since children who receive transplants require a germ-free environment.

For parents, the location offers security and easy access to the hospital, which is just blocks away, but for the affected children it gives them the chance to just be kids. In fact, the most important amenity for many children is not the herb garden or the floor that makes music, but is the all you can eat soft-serve machine.

These families are extremely grateful for everything the Chicago community has provided, and it does not stop with just housing; groups often volunteer to make dinner for the families, and currently more than 110 meals are already booked.
