Modern and Elegant Kitchen in Warm Tones PhotoIf you’re planning on remodeling or making any changes to your kitchen this spring, you may want to check out these hot kitchen trends for spring 2013.

  • Tech-savvy appliances. Whether it’s a KOHLER faucet that turns on with just a wave of a hand or ovens and dishwashers that can be managed with iPhone apps, bringing technology into the kitchen is becoming more and more popular.
  • Artisan tile. Gone are the days of a bland backsplash. Artisan tile offers a unique, handcrafted element to kitchens and can be made out of a variety of materials ranging from wood to glass.
  • Kitchen islands with more personality. The traditional kitchen island as we know it is often perfectly square and matches the shade of the kitchen cabinets. Newer design trends reveal that islands don’t always have to be the same color as cabinets, and some islands are even offering a softer architectural style of around the table seating instead of cramped shoulder-to-shoulder seating.
  • Butler’s pantries. This is the name for the short hallway located between a kitchen and dining room. Homeowners are beginning to take advantage of this type of space, using it for everything from kitchen prep to storage of additional dishes, glassware and cookware.

Adding one of these new trends can give your kitchen the update it needs, especially if you plan on selling your Chicago new home this spring.
