Getting Fair Appraisals on Energy-Efficient Homes

August 05, 2013

NAHB LOGOThe National Association of Home Builders’ (NAHB) Webinar Wednesday series continues this Wednesday with the “High-Performance Appraisals: Steps for Success” webinar.

This educational opportunity, provided by the experts at NAHBGreen, will provide attendees with a better understanding of the appraisals process, as well as the tools needed to receive an appraisal that reflects the added value of a high-performance home.

A recent study found that 90 percent of homebuyers would prefer an energy-efficient home with lower utility bills over one without those features that would cost less. Even though we see that demand for these homes is growing, the appraisal values for this type of home are not. One of the primary reasons for this is that traditional appraisal models do not account for the potential economic benefits that are provided by high-performance features.

Appraisal expert Sandy Adomatis, SRA, of Adomatis Appraisal Service, is the featured speaker, and he will describe the appraisal process, from how appraisals are ordered by lenders to how that affects the appraisal. He will help attendees be able to identify the documents builders must provide to result in a credible appraisal, and he will help teach how to create proactive steps towards having a smooth high-performance transaction.

Participants will receive one hour of continuing education credit towards the NAHB professional designations.

The webinar, held Wednesday, August 7, 2013 from 1 p.m. until 2 p.m. CST, is being offered at $19.95 for council members, $24.95 for members and $44.95 for non-members.
