What Top Colleges and Chicago Real Estate Have in Common

top Chicago colleges affect Chicago real estateWhat do college rankings and Chicago real estate have in common? On the surface, it may not seem like much, but in fact, schools play a huge role in determining just where home shoppers decide to buy their new home.

When it comes to school districts, most buyers only want the best for their kids. In fact, a recent survey found that three in five homeowners say school districts played a major role in their home buying decision, and that they were willing to pay extra for better educational opportunities. While this survey is only referring to elementary through high schools, there is a similar process when it comes to colleges.

While you may only be thinking about your child’s K through 12th grade education right now, eventually they will mostly likely move on to higher education. When that time comes, living near top-ranking colleges can save you money. These days, college tuition seems to be rising faster than ever, and by living in the same state or even the same region as a top college, you can save on tuition and living costs.

Plus, top colleges also tend to attract top students who could one day become a part of the same community’s work force. And, once these students have found a post-college career, they are going to need a place to live. This means that having good colleges will boost the overall economic quality of the school’s surrounding neighborhood.

This being said, what are some of the top colleges in Chicagoland?’s America’s Top Colleges list ranks three Illinois universities in the top 100 in the nation.

So, next time you’re on the hunt for a new home in Chicago, remember to keep Illinois’ top higher education institutions in mind.
