Chuck and Linda Seward with their Gerstad-built homeGerstad Builders is dedicated to building dream homes for families in McHenry County. Though they did not purchase in one of the builder’s communities, Chuck and Linda Seward can still take pride in living in a home built by Gerstad.

It all started four years ago when the Sewards inherited land from Linda’s parents. The two envisioned remodeling the existing home that sat on the land, but they had difficulty finding the right contractor. It would also be costly. So, the two decided on building a new home and searched for the perfect builder.

One weekend, while Linda was touring the McHenry model homes at Gerstad’s Liberty Trails community for inspiration, she discovered that the floor plans could be heavily modified and did not need to be built in a Gerstad community.

So, the Sewards selected the gorgeous 3,177 square foot Georgian floor plan and decided to have Gerstad make minor custom changes. A two-story home, the Georgian features central air conditioning, nine-foot first-floor ceilings, kitchen with center island, sunny breakfast area, formal dining room, living room, private study and a large family room with two-story ceiling and floor-to-ceiling windows flanking the fireplace. The Seward’s master suite impresses with a dual door entry, oversized walk-in closet and private bath with dual bowl vanity, private shower with glass door and soothing corner whirlpool tub.

Alterations in the home included a bedroom on the second level converted into a loft, the location of the laundry room and powder room on the first level was swapped, a full two-story stone veneered fireplace installed in the great room, a larger closet created for the master bedroom suite and a linen closet built in the master bathroom.

All were an easy feat for Gerstad, a builder with years of experience customizing its homes.  “We couldn’t believe how quickly Roger turned around new blueprints and cost estimates for us to approve after we made a request. It was literally a couple of days at the most. We know that this is not typical, and we must thank the president of Gerstad for being with us during the entire design process,” exclaimed Chuck.

In addition to custom alterations, the Sewards filled the home with upgraded materials and amenities. For instance, porcelain floor tile was installed in the the kitchen, breakfast room and foyer; all bathrooms and the laundry room were updated with ceramic floor tile; granite countertops were installed in the master bathroom; Corian counters were placed on top of the upgraded hardwood kitchen cabinets and a double oven installed.

“Every one of our desires for customization and material upgrades were addressed by the team a Gerstad Builders,” stated Chuck. “They were professional and what they quoted pricewise is what we were charged in the end. At closing the house was delivered on budget!”
